Hello im Grip, New member from Illinois....
hello everyone,
ive decided to join these forums because for the last year the XD has been on my mind and just recentley i sent out my F.O.I.D. application so i can purchase one and start enjoying a new hobby. i first learned about the SA XD at a local gun shop with a friend...he went in looking for a Glock, and he ended up getting a Glock .45 cal ( i dont know the model ). while he was conversing with the guy at the gun shop counter i was admiring the black XD .40 service they had in the glass case. another guy behind the counter started telling me all about it, he showed me how everything works, and he even did a field strip for me which i thought was awesome to see how easily it comes apart and how simple it is. ever since then i have been thinking hard if i should get a real pistol or not. Almost 1 year later i have made my decision, i want the SA XD-9, black service to be my first love. The XD-9 will mostly be used for range sessions, and possibly brought with when my dad goes hunting up north at my uncles cabin...cant wait to bring it up there and target practice out doors! for the past week or so i have been looking around on these forums gathering knowledge and tips like they are going out of style, and lastnight i finally registered. (i figure might as well get situated if this is going to be one of the forums i frequent) thanks for having such great forums. |

Welcome to the forum from UT.
You will love the XD! It is a great gun for a first time handgun and 9 is the cheapest of the bunch to shoot. Wish I had one to go with my XD45 Service but my main family vehicle just sucked $1500.00 out of my pocket. |

Welcome aboard, Grip. You can't go wrong with the XD9 as your first pistol. It was mine too and not a single regret.

Welcome from another Illinoisan (even though my location doesn't say so)!
How much longer do you have to wait for that wonderful little FOID card?

thanks, im really excited for the day that i can actually take it home.
it takes about 30 days for illinois to issue a FOID card after they recieve the application. there is a 72 hour cool down period in illinois whenever purchasing a handgun(Ithats so people can cool down before they do somthing stupid), and a 24 hour cool down when purchasing a rifle...so i would imagine i will have my XD-9 by the mid-end of november this year. Welcome to the forum from California.
For the general information of someone in maybe a less restrictive state, what is a FOID card? Sounds like Illinois may have outdone CA on restricting sales. Nevermind, I Googled it. Not much different that CA. We just have a mandatory test, then 10 day wait. The one that torques MY jaws is the 30 day between single item purchases (handguns).
