New member here with a new XD!

Hey guys, this looks like a great forum for me to be in, especially since I just bought my first handgun: SA XD-40 subcompact.

I have shot plenty of handguns, but this one seemed to fit me best, so I finally saved up enough money and bought me one. I am sure I will learn a lot here.

Edit: I do have one quick question though. Is it ok to dry fire my gun, or do I have to worry about the pin getting damaged? I have heard mixed reviews and just don't want to damage my gun. Thanks

Jon

The direction booklet states not to dry fire you're pistol with a (snap cap), also in field stripping You're XD pulling the trigger at One point to finish slide removel, CAUTION READ THE DIRECTIONS FOR STEPS TO TAKE 1ST
However I would say it is safe to dry fire you're pistol, I dry fire Mine and no damage has occured.

Welcome from NY. You're right....this is a great forum to be in! I also feel the same way about the XD "fitting" me best. You'll be fine either way with dry firing, with or without snap caps. If you plan on doing it a lot, snap caps certainly wouldn't hurt. I believe it's mentioned in the manual. I can't find mine at the moment, but I'm fairly sure it says dry firing (w/o) is okay. Have fun with your new purchase!

Thanks a lot guys. I read through most of the manual, but I am going to look back and see if I can find more discrete details.

+1 on the snap caps

They aren't required but better safe than sorry.
