I am not sure if this is the right place to post this or not but I am new to XD talk, I have decided to purchase an XD, I was able to shoot the .40 service model but have not been able to shoot the .45 yet. I have had some people tell me to purchase the .40 and some tell me to get the .45.
There are not many gun shops in my area to be able to compare, any pros and cons would be welcome
thanks

1st of all hello and welcome to the forum, 2nd I can't offer any comparison between the .40 and .45 XD models. I own an XD-45 service and love it, on the other hand I have never shot a .40 in any make or model. I think honestly either one would be great just depends on wich one you suits you better. Good luck in your search.

Hello, welcome!

I just recently went through the same decision process. I was fortuante to be able to demo the 9, .40, and .45, and enjoyed them all. I ultimately went with the .40 service. To me it felt like a nice medium. I am somewhat new to the world of handguns so some might disagree with that statement, but l just felt more comfortable with the overall size of the 9mm and .40 pistol (as did my wife and since I am out of town a lot I wanted something she felt comfortable with also). The general cost of ammo especially for weekly plinking was a slight factor too, although if it was a huge factor I would have gone for the 9. Have you ruled the 9 out completely? Worth checking out in my opinion.

Sounds redundant but it's true-the bottom line is you can't really go too wrong with any of the XD's, just go with what feels right to you.
