I just put down a little $$$ today for one of these (minus the fancy sights I believe).
http://www.springfield-armory.com/xd.php?version=64 I've been thinking about getting a handgun for several years now but up until an incident a week ago my girlfriend didn't like the idea at all. Our illustrious new neighbor of two weeks has been drunk since he moved in and has been trying to get my daughter into his house since day one. I had finally had enough of this as it was freaking her out so I went over to tell him to leave my kids alone (she's 17 and I would say he is mid to late 40's or early 50's). As usual he was impaired enough that his speech was slurred. Five minutes after I went back inside we heard him shoot into the air five times as a threat/warning etc. Needless to say he went to jail that night and damn near got shot by the officers that showed up. I've never owned a gun to date minus a little .25 I had back when I was young but come next thursday the above will be here in the house. I'm not a stranger to guns mind you, I've just never owned them personally. I want to thank everyone here for their posts and information. This knowledge and experience helped me to know which direction to take for the final decision on my purchase though I was fairly sure I was going to get an XD anyway. Now if they will just open the range on SR 16 I heard was coming I'll be set. |

First of all. welcome aboard.
Second of all, congrats on your new purchase. You will enjoy it. Good job on making the preparations to defend yourself and your children. Wish more people would learn this lesson before it is too late. Oh, and I love St. Augustine. It is my favorite place to vacation. Do me a favor, and have a beverage of your choice at Scarlett O'Hara's pub. And, do it in my name. I sure miss that place!!! LOL

Sorry to hear you are having that trouble. If you have his name check him out at FDLE and see if he's a sex offender. May be able to get him for stalking or violating other orders.

Congrats on your purpose. I have no doubt it will be a beneficial one.
Stay alert, stay safe. Watch after your daughter.

I don't think I'm going to have to watch after her much in life, she's practically begging me to teach her how to shoot when I get the XD home. I told her I would but that I would like some time to myself with it first to get back into the groove of things from years ago. You know, looking comfortable, responsible, and knowledgeable. Why we must do these things I'm not sure but I think it's in the handbook that came with the kids.

Welcome aboard, fellow Floridian! Remember one thing -- Florida has a "Castle Doctrine" law... Good luck with that other issue -- I'm sure it will all work out!
P.S. I have a 15-year old step-daughter... The boy next door had to learn the hard way... -Fyr
