De Las Vegas

Hi everyone. There is some great info here... thanks! I am from Vegas and I am shopping around for my first handgun, although I'm pretty much set on an XD 9mm Service Bi-Tone.
There a few stores around here with decent prices but there is also a gun show coming here in a few weeks. Can I find a better deal at a gun show? Are they mostly used/new or just manufacturer's display booths? Obviously I have never been to one.

Gun Shows have changed over the years. In some respects it is kind of like a gun swap meet of sorts where you can actually negotiate price for certain items like ammo and accessories. This can also be said for certain firearms from certain vendors, but it harder to find nowadays.

Vegas gun shows are great. There's a lot of product there and a lot of things worth checking out. There's also many new products from flashlights, to sites, to lasers, etc. that are often debuted at gun shows and Las Vegas is a large venue for that. Plus you also have one of the best training facilities if not THE best training facility in the entire country available to you 30 minutes outside Pahrump which is FrontSite which I'll be attaining a membership to this month, pretty excited about it.

Nobody here is going to tell you that purchasing an XD is a bad idea. My first gun I ever purchased was an XD40 and I've loved it ever since. I'm a big polymer buff. But by all means, go to the gun show first, there's a lot of vendors there and a lot of competition, and that means lower prices for you.

Best of luck and let us know how things turned out.

Thanks for the input guys. The local gun shop I've been looking at has the xd9 bi-tone for $525 which seems like a pretty good price from what I've seen. I'm sure I'll also go to the gun show anyway.
I definitely would like to go to FrontSite. I actually just read about the deal you can get if you join Gun Owners of America. http://www.gunowners.org/subguns3.htm
Sounds like a good deal for a good program!

Ya the gun shows have definitely changed, its hot uncommon to see used guns selling for more than what you can get a new one for. The best prices in town are Discount Firearms on Highland ( $469 on my last two xd's) and although its a zoo The Gun Store on Trop. Good luck.
