Patiently awaiting my XD in Texas

Greetings all, been lurking for a while and decided it was time to introduce myself. Ordered a Bi-Tone XD40SC from a local gun shop about six weeks ago and am (im)patiently awaiting its arrival.

As far as personal information, I'm a 23 year old, politically moderate, college student who spends the week in the Dallas area and weekends in the Waco area. I have been shooting for literally as long as I can remember, and have inherited quite a few of dad's, grandad's, and great-grandad's guns. This will be my first gun purchase and my first semi-automatic pistol.

And a question to wrap things up with: Is there anything special I should do to my XD when I first get it, besides clean and lube, before I take it to the range?

Order at least half-a-case of ammo. 500 rounds should be good for breakin.

Six weeks?! My friend wanted one and we found one at a gun show and walked out with it.

The "clean and lube" part is debatable. You can do it for familiarization and for "feel good" reasons but a new gun will be cleaner than it will ever be once you start shooting and cleaning it. As long as it's not bone dry or caked with grease, I would go straight to the range with it.
