New XD owner from NW IL

Last month I was at a local IPSC match. Springfield Armory was a sponsor and supplied a prize gun, an XD-40 from the Custom Shop. I handled the prize gun a few days before the match and was very impressed with it.

On the second day of the two-day match, my squad was right behind a team made up of Springfield Armory employees and family members. Yup, they were all dressed in black SA Hats and black SA polos! During the down time, I talked to a couple of them and noticed some even more exotic custom XDs. My curiosity was piqued.

My performance in the match with my trusty old Glock 35 was lackluster, barely in the top half of shooters. I decided to re-evaluate what I was doing, and where I wanted to go with my IPSC shooting. After some serious comtemplation, I decided I wanted to give Production class a shot. I liked the idea of a more even playing field. I was tired of being beat by better guns, not necessarily better shooters.

I got an e-mail Monday from our IPSC organizer, about "Springfield Days" at a local gun shop. Discounts, extra magazines, and range memberships were offered to anyone buying a new Springfield. I finally took the step I had been putting off, and purchased a XD-9 Tactical for my birthday. I got to fire three or four other Springfields at this event, for only the price of the ammo. I really liked the XD-9 SC and the 9mm EMP!

After 300 rds of practice, I am taking my new XD to a nearby club for a match on Sunday. I have the feeling I will not be disappointed in my decision. I've talked with Springfield Custom Shop and will be dropping my XD off with them in a few weeks for an "XD Production Package."

I probably won't sell my Glock 35, as I may still shoot Limited from time to time. However, I may sell my G22 home defense pistol in favor of another XD.

Welcome to the forum from UT. There is something about shooting/handling the XD that just makes everyone (except for my wife whom is sitting right here) have to have one!

Yes, the match I went to last month was at Milan Rifle Club. I was going to go to a match today at Chillicothe Sportsmen Club, but other obligations prevailed. Milan's next match is Sept. 30th. When the match director there heard I switched to 9mm Production Division, he told me he was going to have to set the steel a little harder to knock down.

Steel stages have not always been too friendly to me.

Welcome, Frank. We have a big USPSA match in Plainfield on Oct 14th. We'd love to have you. We just completed the Match Book and will post it shortly. It is high round counts (146 rounds/730 points) with a dark house stage. It will be fun.

Plus, we are raffling off a XD! Tell your friends!!

Thanks for the invite. I emailed a couple of local shooters. I'll see if anyone from my area wants to come up with me. It looks like fun and I would certainly like to come.

Besides, I haven't had any White Castle in a loooonnng time.
