New member, just picked up an XD 45

Howdy, I already own an XD 9 sub and love it, but just ordered my first 45, an XD 45 Tac model.

I do have a question about the finishes on these guns. Does anyone know if the new "melonite" finish being used (it's on both my xd's) still has problems coming off, similar to the old finish? If it does come off, what are the best aftermarket finish options for XD's that I should consider?

Thanks, I had checked that thread, but I'm curious whether anyone has actually had the NEW finish--the melonite version--rub off with time, or need to be refinished. And also, if there are good aftermarket finishes I should consider. Couldn't find any info on that in the other thread.

Also BTW, I'm pretty happy with my 2 XD's. I had the chance to buy a 1911, even had a nice production one on order, and though it was an $800 S&W, ultimately I decided the XD is a better gun, even at $300 less. So I canceled the 1911 order and went with the XD! I know many love 1911's, and I've got nothing against 'em, but they are too often jam-o-matics unless you buy the Wilsons or high-cost customs to begin with. Even Kimbers have problems way too often, though they are better than cheaper brands. The only way to make em highly reliable is to spend big bucks for customization, whereas XD's, Sigs, HK's, and Glocks work out of the box in about 99% of the cases, from what I've seen.
