First off, Hello to everyone. I got lucky and found this site while looking for a new pistol. I will be getting my CCW permit in a few weeks and I'm looking for a dependable 9mm that is small enough to carry during cool weather and for home and auto defense. I had plans on buying a 9mm KAHR but there seems to be a question about dependablity and quality control. I was hoping someone could give me some advice on the 9mm compact XD as for as using it for conceal and carry. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the board fellow newbie!

I'm not going to say that I'm an expert, but I do own quite a few handguns. I have been shooting for over 20 years (a lot less, I'm sure, than some of the others around here...) I recently purchased an XD45c, and was so pleased that I immediately purchased the tactical model as well as a 9 sub compact. I have to say that I am extremely impressed by this line of pistols -- so much so that my "blocks" have been sitting still for weeks! I may have to re-evaluate my collection. One that I will always keep is my G27, but that's another story.

As far as the "pocket pistols" go, I have to say that I'm partial to the Kahr line. I have a P9, P40 covert, K40, and just purchased a "lot" consisting of a P9, E9, MK9 and an MK40. My experience so far has been exceptional with my PM9. It is light, accurate and very functional. I have not had any issues with it so far, and have thousands of rounds downrange. Remember, the ones you hear from are typically the ones that have issues -- you rarely hear from the satisfied consumer. The one thing I can tell you is that the P40 Covert is a handful! My G27 seems to be easier to shoot.

I also have a few Kel-Tec pistols as well. I have a brand-new PF-9 as well as a few P32's and five P3AT's. All good guns, if you remember their intended purpose. These are not like your workhorse Glock, they are meant to be carried a lot and shot a little.

Anyway, good luck with your search! I do reccommend the PM9, and look forward to getting another soon (as soon as I have another $700 to spend!)

Welcome to the forum from UT. I carry a XD45 service with out much trouble, just a little difficult when it gets hot out. The subcompact XD pistols should be even more comfortable and easier to conceal. Get what is comfortable and something you enjoy shooting!
