Smile Greetings from Nashville

Hello fellow shooters,

I've been a fan of the XD since I first laid eyes on one a few years ago, but just recently came to acquire an XD-9 service model (trading one of my single stacks) and just yesterday handed in my old carry gun, a Block 23 (not a misprint), for a used(?!) XD-45 Compact. You read that right, a USED 45 compact! I was at one of our nicer local gunshops Guns and Leather (www.gunsandleather.com) drooling over a new compact 45 when one shelf down I spotted one with a lower price tag (not that I wasn't willing to pay the higher one). All caution thrown to the wind, I plopped down my debit card and went to their indoor range with a box of 230grain FMJs. I don't mind saying that it felt great, albeit a little snappy. It couldn't have had 500 rounds down the pipe before I got it, so a little more breaking in needs to take place.

There are a couple of things I have some questions about - chiefly, who does a great trigger job? The springfield custom shop has a "carry package" that lightens the trigger, takes out some of the slack and adds night sights for about $200 I'm thinking about.

The thread on heavyweight guys (like myself) discussing concealed carry options has hands down been one of the most informative discourses I've ever read on an online forum. It's a real problem. I'm 6 feet 320 pounds and I have trouble finding clothes that fit right, let alone adding bulk and weight to the equation in the form of a loaded compact gun and spare magazine. I'm thinking the smartcarry is going to be the way to go for me. Have any big guys had luck with it? I've tried emailing the owner, but the email bounced back as undeliverable.

Anyway, thanks for all the information and I hope as a licensed CCW and competition shooter (USPSA, NRA) I can contribute at some point.

- Daniel Harrington

Welcome to the site. Do the search on the questions you asked. They are not new and there is a lot of good information on the site.

Welcome!

I live in Southern California, but I am moving (hopefully) soon to the Hendersonville area. My brother is stationed at Fort Campbell, and we (the family) love it over there. Enjoy the forum.
