Another Florida Newb. (aka finally got one)

I had posted here a couple times prior to owning a firearm (any)--well now that has change (or will shortly).

I went to the gun show that another member mentioned going to (I didn't see that post before I went, however, or I might have set something up). Got an "OK" deal (paid the premium vs. online to handle and know what I'm getting) for a Service Bi-Tone XD9 and I pick it up on Thursday. I saw the other member mention some recommended accessories; what would those be?

I already picked up some cheap brass from wally world and plan on firing a lot of it when I pick the XD up.

Right now I would just get a good set of eyes and ears and lots of ammo. WWB is cheap but dirty however it doesnt bother me and my xd's dont mind it either.

accessories, well, not really, they're necessities if you haven't picked them up yet - cleaning supplies and maintenance stuff. maybe a range bag to throw all that stuff in. if you're going to join a club, they'll probably require eye/ear protection.\

cheapest ammo, and some people say it's dirty, others don't, is blazer brass.

I picked up some plugs--do most ranges require over-ear protection?

Also, I will be wearing glasses while shooting, I wouldn't mind wearing additional protection over the glasses, but I haven't seen many that look like they would fit comfortably over glasses; will most places allow you to shoot if you only wear eye glasses? One of the places I've shot in the past didn't have a problem with me only wearing my glasses, but I'd prefer to have my bases covered if I visit one that does mind.

i think glasses would be fine. i usually wear my contacts to shoot, and either just plain old sun glasses or shooting glasses.

i've used the "in the ear" plugs and not had a problem. if you shoot indoors, you might want to use plugs and over the ear style both. it can get pretty loud in there depending on what others are shooting.

WELCOME TO ONE OF THE XD HANGOUTS!

I probably passed you a couple of times this weekend at the Gun Show at the Fair Grounds, if you were there on Saturday. I picked up a Ruger Mark III 22/45 which was priced right.

I will tell you, I did see some "great" deals there, but I was a bit short on the green stuff.

I am a bit fond of the Bi-Tone too.

It is a great gun!

A couple of the things you may want to add as you move along is a Hogue Rubber Slip-On grip (Model# 17000). Eventually, you may want to add some Night Sights - personally, I just had the Tru-Glo TFO's installed on mine.

Enjoy and Happy Shooting!
