You need to shoot what works for you. For an example XD's don't fit everyone just like Glocks don't. So make sure you have the gun that works for you and you shoot well.

Next I would try several different ammo types for CCW. Most people carry Jacketed Hollow Points "JHP's". If you check out the ammo section in the forum you will find multiple discussions for which carry ammo is best. I would buy several types and shoot them through your gun. Make sure they feed, fire and eject. They are expensive but by going through a selection process you build confidence in your firearm and ammo you carry.

Most people carry major brand factory ammo. I carry Speer Gold Dot's for my 9mm, 357 sig, 357 mag and 45 acp. But I also have Winchester Ranger SXT 45 +p rounds for the .45 ACP.

Stay away from the exotic ammo like Extreeme Shock which has yet to be proven. Speer, Federal, Winchester are good places to start.

I carry Speer Gold Dot HP and Federal hydra-shok in both my XD40 and my Kimber 45. The ballistic reports that I read looked pretty good for each round so I combine both types. One type then the other so I have an even mix, alot like when we mixed tracer and ball ammo in the military.

Lots of personal opinion and preference and firearm preference (not all guns shoot all ammo well). Also, you don't state what caliber you are looking for and some of us have different answers for different calibers.

Others think my concerns are bogus.

There are threads about this topic on here that go numerous pages and have heated discussions sometimes. Don't base your choice on this thread. Pick a name brand JHP or copper HP and try it out. Make sure you pick something you can afford to shoot for testing so you can ensure that it feeds and ejects well. IMHO, in a .45 the specific choice of HP SD ammo is not as critical as it is in other calibers. Any decent brand HP is going to put a 1/2" hole (or larger) in the BG.
