It seems I might end up w a compact for CCW. Just choosing caliber now I guess.
I don't have any issues controlling it with the short mag. I prefer the extended mag for the range because it fits my hand much better, but I can shoot a few 10 rd mags in a row through it without issue. I usually carry the 10rd mag in the pistol and have 13rd mag for my spare.

I have a .45 compact with 4" barrel, or service size. My understanding is that the XD45C now also comes in a 5" barrel or tactical model. I have never seen one, but I have read about it on this site.

I'm actually leaning toward an XD pretty hard, just wondering on the caliber now. However I've been doing research for a while on pistols through my own ways w/ magazines and such and also by worth of mouth. But till this day I've never even heard of a Kel-Tec. I'll do some investigating of my own but I'm pretty set on getting an XD. Thanks again though man...
Honestly, the XD9SC is an awesome gun! If you are focusing on the XD's, then I would steer you in that direction.

Here are a couple of web links to the Kel-Tec 380 and the Kel-Tec 9SC's that we just got.

Good Luck!

Anyway, Gary Tx One of my buddies has a H&K P2000 I kind of liked it but never fired it so I guess I'll shoot that first. However you cant deny those torture tests they conducted on the XD. That was truly impressive!

Army Guy 45, Yeah I'm with you on the 1911 that thing is probably one of the most accurate pistols I have ever fired w/ the right ammo. As far as the XD45 goes I haven't shot one yet however I continue to hear great thinks about it. I mean it was the 2006 NRA Hand gun of the year. I did hold it in my hand though and if felt a little bulky however there is a compact so we'll see.
jtkratzer, That XD45 compact is great probably but I've never like those short handles but they do have extended clips so I'll just have to try all of them at least in my hand first before I buy. As far as your clothing attire, if you work in a business environment chances are that there mostly women and you could just leave the pistol in your car w/ it being properly locked up until you get outta work.
Man, I just started here and you guys are all ready crackin jokes... This is going to be a good forum... Thanks much guys!!
Alex

welcome to the fourm!! just one question... if your in the military, why do you still call a magazine a clip? go with the xd.40sc and get the pearce
grip extender for the magazine.

Clarification: I was in the military, got out in March 06. Iraqi veteran and yes I did slip up one time and called it a clip but like I said before I was used to M-16's and not pistols. But we are all human ya know and are allowed our occasional brain farts.
I'll check all the XDsc and XDc out. Why do you say 40 cal? And what's the difference be the pearce grip extender mag and the factory extender mag?

no disrespect intended and your right. the pearce grip extender allows your pinky finger to make contact with the base of the mag and to be able to CC without it it bulging out of your shirt.

First of all welcome to the forum. I have the XD40 service and alternate between it and a Kimber Pro Carry in .45. Conceal carry it pretty close to the same for both of them for me. A lot of people will not plunk down the money for a kimber so go with what you feel like. Round size being taken into consideration a 45 will give you more punch, however, with the right type of ammunition "Hydra-shok" and shot placement can do the job quite well. Either way you CAN NOT go wrong with an XD.

personally, the recoil in the 9mm is very manageable, i shot one for the first time about a week ago. it had more pop to it than i expected. when i shot the .40 s&w, it was manageable, but with the gun being a subcompact, and I didn't have much grip on it, i could only get two fingers on that teeny grip, the muzzle flipped/popped up quite a bit. the recoil of the .45 acp, in the XD45 compact is more like a push or a shove into your hand. it's not snappy. that might have to with the gun weighing 30 ounces unloaded and it might have to do with having my whole hand on the grip.

when i'm at the range, i still prefer to shoot the 10 round magazines. I don't have little girl hands, but they aren't big meat hooks either.

when you shoot a 9mm, and then shoot a .45 acp right afterwards, you'll notice a stronger, more noticeable thump in your hand, but for me, maybe it's the grip, but the muzzle does not go up very far and i can quickly make well aimed follow up shots.

I see, so the XD45 compact, what I have is the 4", and then there's the XD45 compact tactical. I see why you're calling it service. at the time when i purchased mine, only a month ago, i don't know if the XD45 compact tactical was available. interesting, i understand now.
