Hello all
I'm Dave. I'll be turning 21 in exactly a month, which means I'll be the proud owner of an XD 45 Service in about a month. Can't wait. This site has been a goldmine of information for me, and I hope it will continue to be so for many more years. Thanks for making such a resource available.

welcome to the forum. my question is why the service and not the compact? you get the shorter grip for concealment but you get a magazine with the an extension for the full size grip. |

First, I like the bigger holes argument. But ammo prices being what they are, I'm open to coercion.
Second, um... because it's sexier? Truth to tell, I haven't really decided yet. The 4" .45 was just my first choice. I've fired my uncle's Glock 27, and wasn't a fan of the way it tried to jump out of my hand. Does the mag extension make a big difference there? Heck, if I have too much trouble deciding, I can solve those problems pretty easy... GET BOTH!

Welcome to the site...don't let anyone talk you out of the 45 as long as you can afford the ammo, although the tactical is my prefered weapon any style is excellent. The 45 has a nice soft recoil, fits the hand like a pair of silk panties and in general is just the King of the XD Series IMHO.
The 9 will not be as expensive to feed this is true.....but the 45 is an awesome shooter.

i'm looking at a teeny tiny subcompact for summer concealment when wearing slacks and a dress shirt tucked in, and that will probably be a 9mm. my wife shot a 9mm the other day, and then she put 5 rounds through my XD45c through one ragged hole. second time she ever shot a gun. i don't think she's decided whether she likes 9mm or 45 acp yet, but we'll see. while .45 auto ammo is a bit more expensive, you can get blazer brass and go to the range and put 200 rounds through your gun for under 50 bucks. if you're talking about spending the money on two guns, i'd just get the 45 and make sure it isn't malnourished. if you're going to shoot a decent amount, you can put 100 rounds a week through your gun for under 100 bucks a month, that's less than some cell phone bills. one thing to consider, if you're going to use whatever you get a concealed carry piece, just make sure whatever you get is going to be concealable for what you wear throughout the different seasons of the year, unless you're prepared to buy two guns. that was my mistake, the way i dress for work, i can't really conceal the XD45c, it rides in the car, but i simply can't conceal it. I'm self-employed, so i have no issues with work policy to deal with. Although, I was surprised how when i ran out to the car last night at 2 am, the XD45 compact fit well in my back pocket of my jeans. it printed a bit, but it was still a quick place to stick it for a few minutes. |
