New guy, new XD Sub Compact..

New guy here.. I went to the gun store to buy a Beretta PX4, and ended up having to decide between a Colt Commander, and a XD-9 Sub Compact.. The Colt won out, but the XD Stayed in the back of my head. A week later I took in my Beretta 92 and traded it in on the XD. I must say I am pleased with my purchase..

And here is the Colt just for anyone who wants to see it..

I put in an order from pistolgear just now and will post more pics when it arrives...

welcome

We will discharge weapons in your honor, char mammal flesh, drink wine and pillage women.

Well, maybe not today......the wife and kids are here.

Good choices both ways, hope they shoot as good as they look.

Welcome to the forum. I did the opposite. I bought an XD45 Service and then had to go back and get my 1911!

Thumbs up

wot_racing:

Welcome aboard from a relative newbie here too!

(I've been carrying for just under 40 years, but only had an XD for about three weeks. Sub-Compact 9mm....)

My 1970's Commander died.... Some serious frame damage issues. It's going to grow a Kimber .22 conversion slide if the fool thing ever gets here. Other 1911's here to take up that slack.

I haven't owned a striker fired gun since I sold (dummy!) my Baby Browning at least 25 years ago. I'm still not 100% sure why I bought this one, other than wanting a 9mm "house gun" I could put on my belt once in a while if necessary. It's essentially replacing an S&W CS45. (6+1 .45ACP that's about the same size, shape, and weight as the XD9-SC. Naturally, they won't share leather. The S&W's rather an inch-thick PPK/S. A little better "melt" treatment than the XD, though.)

The XD's a lot more fun to shoot than the Smith. Since I'm more than used to the 1911's, recoil questions are "what recoil?" (The CS45's no worse than any of my 1911's in that respect.)

(If I really want no recoil at all, I've got an old - circa 1973 - S&W M39-2. Alloy frame, and it's a bit different inside, but it's essentially a 9mm Commander in DA/SA. Surprisingly, the XD is roughly as comfortable all-around.)

Regards,
