Newbie from Ft. Hood, TX
Greetings everyone. Been searching for an XD forum for awhile now. Looking into buying my first one. Having major trouble deciding whether I want the 40 sc or service model. Want to cc with it, so it'll probably be the sc, but was wondering if the service model would work. My big reason for wanting the 40 is when I get out of the military next year I'll be going to a police department in NC that uses the Walther P99 in 40sw. I really like the XD better than Walther that's why I'd rather buy it. Any help on your part would be appreciated. Thanks and I look forward to a great experience here.

Welcome to the site. HArd to give you an answer because individual needs and desires are so different. Search the forums for previous discussions on the advatnages / disadvantages of each caliber but I would go with the 40 Service if it was going to be my primary carry and concealment was not an issue.
Enjoy the site.

If your going somewhere that uses the 40 to be a LEO, get the Service, then get yourself the sub compact, that way your set, they are low enough in price to get both. Which shop are you looking at getting it from. Not the one up in Harker Heights is it. Les

Welcome from Waco!
I think the service is the right size for concealed carry, and I like the 4" barrel. I haven't shot the sub-compact (3"), but I have held it, and I liked the service better. The nice thing about the sub-compact is it uses the compact magazines, which make concealed carry a lot easier. You might want to take a look at the compact model in 45. It has a 4" barrel and allows you to use the compact magazines. I think it's the best of both worlds. \\ACB

Welcome to the forum first of all. I have the 40 service and have carried it now for around 7 months and love it. If you can get a chance try and find a sc and the service that they will let you fire, then go from there. Either way you're gonna love it. Like the other post said "get yourself one of each and you'll be covered"
