Picked up an XD-9 "Compact" on Tuesday last. Shot it on Wednesday.
I tend to impulse buy when I'm in the store looking for something (in this case a small .45), but decided that the small .45 I have is just heavy. Saved a couple bucks.... Impressive.... I had a spectacular failure to eject (resulting in a need for a mallet and cleaning rod) about 50 rounds into the initial tests. Looked like a dirty chamber or something like that. During cleaning I found some tramp metal in the brush. Looked like cutting scraps. I'm guessing that some of that found it's way into the chamber. (AARGH - I opened the gun and lubed things but the bore looked OK so I didn't bother - lots of craziness on the range that night trying to repair another guy's Llama and help a friend clean his Kimber .45. He needed help with disassembly. It took about an hour to get to the point I could get everybody to put muffs on and actually shoot something!) After busting that casing out the gun was fine for another few rounds and (when stripped down again) looks fine. The failed casing looked decent too.... This isn't my first "plastic" gun (I've got a Walther P22 and a KelTec P3-AT) but it's the best of the lot. Pretty much shoots like my old M39-2 in SA mode! Just not as big.... (I bought the M39 NIB in about 1973.) It's probably going to be a house gun - grubbies and such. IAC I'm happy.... I'll likely buzz in and out here as time permits. And a question.... Anybody have a list (or some comments) on things to really watch out for with this gun? I'm going to read the board as much as possible, of course, but if there's a list.... Regards,

Welcome to the forum.
Love the gun, I really don't care for the stock sights, I bought some night sights to replace them, but they are a B!*tch to remove. Otherwise, a really nice gun.

A Western welcome to you. The XD 9mm subbie was my first tupperware experience.

Thanks for the welcome guys!
(And condolences to the one with the Jack Russell Terrorist. I've been at this since forever, but hadn't been on the range in way too long. When OH's "Affirmative Defense" melted down in 2004, I had to get a CHL. After the first shot I suddenly remembered how much fun it was.... That cost me a pile.... Club membership and at least four guns.... Now they want me to get rid of the Town Car and get a dualie.... And Sammy's not allowed out there.... Regards,

Wow, 23#. That dog would drag me around the block. Ours is only 11# but has no clue how small she is. They are a lot of fun.

LTC-USA:
Sammy's from Texas.... He also doesn't know that he's supposed to be a small dog.... He couldn't drag me around, but he's strong enough that I can pick him up by a pull toy. My range buddy's got a pair of Yorkies. Cute but a little yappy. He worries about some birds in the area grabbing the dogs.... Really is a riot though. My wife just went up to bed and Sammy's trying to decide whether to pester me for a treat or just go upstairs and try to keep my wife awake. We also found the mate to a white sock I took from Sammy earlier. Well what's left of it.... Our daughter decided we were empty nesters after she moved out to go to college. She was visiting my sister in Texas when one of the ranch hands (my sister's got 40 acres -a postage stamp in that area) had a litter for sale. She grabbed the runt, and flew him to Columbus. Drove up here about a week later - my wife knew, but I didn't. I'll fix her eventually.... Here's the full frame from the avatar picture. Sammy's about a year and a half older (and a few pounds heavier) now. ![]() Gotta get a newer picture eventually. Regards,

Sammy is very cute. Our Zipper is like having a 2 year old and demands constant attention. She is from Las Vegas. We know of someone who lost his Jack Russell to a coyote in Lake Tahoe. How awful. AZ is a problem with coyotes and small dogs also.
