Noob to "this" forum and XD45
So I got my XD45 for general reasons. I have about 500 rounds through it so far. Read all the stuff on this site. Good site here. Affter a few rounds, come to find out I am a bad shot. Makes me mad cause my dad is always an excellent shot. I'm low and I think I am pulling the trigger wrong (at the joint). I have stuff to work on and will be getting snap caps today.
What about modifying? Are mods all they are made out to be, or are they minor little changes? (Triggers, springs, guide rods, sights) Are they just fun stuff to mess with and spend money on, or legit performance inhancers? Should I get more rounds through to learn what I have now before doing any mods, or should I learn the mods as I go? I do know mods for any hobby are not the answer to poor mechanics. I wasn't born yesterday, but I am inexperienced in the shooting sports. Any input is most appriciated.

Fun mods and legit performance enhancers are subjective. It all boils down to what you plan on doing with the gun.
For a carry gun, I'd say get a drop-in trigger kit (or send it off for a full "carry" trigger-job), new sights and (maybe) a DGR and spring. The DGR would be more for reliablity than for performance enhancing, unless you play with the spring weights a bit and find something that works well for you and your chosen loads. For a race gun, all bets are off. Then you're only limited by the rules for the classification you plan to shoot. |

Welcome Powerman.
Where in Colorado do you live? I'm in Parker we have a great group of guys from Colorado on the board. We also get together and hit the range about every month or so. Lets see if we can get you to one of the informal shoots and give you a few pointers. You can also check out the mods we have done to each of our XD's. Trigger jobs, sights, grips ect...

Welcome to the forum, Powerman. I recommend that you run several hundred rouinds through your pistol to break in the trigger and get accustomed to how it shoots. Then you will be in a better position to know what you want to do by way of modifications. On my XD45 I got a trigger job (4.0#), had the feed ramp polished, and added TruGlo TFO sights.

Let's see if we can connect either this weekend or next. Ben Lomand Gun Club is between us about 30 minutes away. We could meet and put some rounds down range together. I have a few other friends in the Springs maybe we could get you a ride with one of them to the range. Let me see what schedules look like for the weekend.

slugger6, that was pretty much what I was thinking about. Why polish the ramp. It already is . Does it improve feed that much? Then again it's pretty cheap.
Thanks hellagerm, interesting name. Broadside, this weekend is out, but I am off next weekend. Maybe then. It takes 45 min just to go to the mountains to shoot.
