XD Warranty

Bought my first semi-auto pistol this week - XD Tactical 9mm.

LOVE the gun - HATE the warranty! Having only owned "revolvers" my whole life, and reload my own ammo, I was absolutely *&$#!% dumbstruct to find out the XD Warranty is void if you reload or even use FACTORY reloaded ammo??!!

Whatsup up with that? This has never been an issue with the numerous 'revolvers' i own,, and I would greatly appreciate it if someone could tell me if this is true for ALL semi-autos? Or is it just Springfield that voids the Warranty?

I cant think of a Semi-auto that says reloads are covred under the warrenty. Basicaly they are saying if you screw up...well you screwed up.

Welcome to the forum and welcome to the world of lawyers.

I work as a claims examiner for an insurance company handling bodily injury claims. I see all the dumb stuff that people do. (Whoops...I just shot my cousin through the legs with a .357 Magnum)

I suspect it's just a CYA thing to make sure that the company doesn't go bellly up when some yahoo decides he's going to try some home brewed 45 ACP ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++P round for his (fill in the blank) pistol. "Hey, my pistol blew up. I had five fingers on my shooting hand before this happened. I want a new pistol. You didn't tell me that I couldn't use reloads." Yadda, yadda, yadda.

At least with this policy, if you DO break the gun, Springfield can decide if they want to be customer friendly with you. I wouldn't worry about it. It's a sign of the times...

+1 with Timmy44221. I don't know of any semi-auto that doesn't have this kind of wording on their manuals.

Thanks Jim and Tim and all who left a note!

And it looks like you guys nailed it. We talked to an XD Dealer and a Glock rep here locally and they both said basically the same thing - you wont have a problem with the usual kinda stuf - but they wont take responsibility for somebody blowing up a barrel and then sending the gun back under warranty.

Works for me! Pat in Minnesota

If you do some poking around on XDTalk, you will find one example of where a member blew up his XD with reloads and SA covered it and replaced it. Would SA cover another gun for the same reason, maybe not. But doing once is more than what most companies would do, as they live and die by printed policy.
