New guy with a question
Hello All,
I've had several types of rifles and shotguns, but now I'm getting into the pistol world. I've decided on an XD for a few reasons, but my one question is caliber. I know I will shoot 9mm most of all, for price reasons, but would it be better to buy a .45 to have the capability of shooting .45, 9mm, .357, etc? How does converting to different calibers effect accurracy and reliability? Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I'm picking one up this week and want to make sure I get the right one. TIA |

First off welcome to the site and the XD family. You will get a lot of different and varying opines regarding the barrel converting. Do a quick search and you will find its been discussed and argued over and over. Personally I have one conversion barrel and that settled the question for me....just never was happy with the performance. Buy the caliber that is going to fit your situation, target practice, self defense, home defense etc.
Enjoy the site

as far as i know you canot convert the 45 to 9mm and 357sig and visa versa. your best bet would be get the 40 and have the best of both worlds, cheaper ammo and descent stopping power, in my opinion

I'm pretty sure the sub compact doesn't convert at all. So if you're planning on getting a SC model forget about conversion.
You cannot convert .45 ACP into 9mm at this time. If you buy .45 ACP (A fine choice and my personnel favorite) that is what you will shoot. .40 has conversion barrels to 9mm. I'm pretty sure that .357 also can convert. 9mm isn't my favorite round, but if that's what you want to shoot, why not just buy that, save the money on a barrel and get a .45 later? I don't think it matters which one you get and what cool toys you get with it, but most who buy XD's want another. Especially if that's your only pistol. |

yoda,
perfect response, that's exactly what I wanted to hear. I'm going to keep the 9 and probly get a 45 later. Nice site thus far, thanks everyone for replying. |
