New from the tip of New Hampshire

Hello,

I'm new to the forum, not to firearms. I was a firearms instructor on a small (20 sworm) police dept. Carried an issued Sig p-220 .45. Liked my personal carry Glock 23 .40S&W.

Will decide soon what my next carry gun will be.

Have to chuckle a bit when the suggestion ... go to the rental range and try them is suggested. I have no idea there the nearest range is that has a selection. needles it is many hundreds of miles distant.

On the other hand, I can safely shoot all I want within a short walk.

I handled an XD compact 9mm (don't care for the (9mm).

Seems the choice will be an XD sub-compact .40 or compacr.45. which will be on my side or very closeby. I prefer the .45, but will have to see how comfortably it carries. Yes, I carry concealed. I am a licensed hunting guide and could carry exposed on my belt. Wow! Does that draw attention. Better not to be seen.

First pistol I saw when I moved north was loaded in plain view on some fellows hip while he sat at a bar ordering a beer.

Anyway, it was -33F last night with 5' of snow on the ground in some places.

Never too old to learn and I do have one question?

What size group over rest at 25yds. with the above mentioned pistols.

Yup, I know this is the intro forum, my next posts will be on the XD forum.

Practice, dry fire, practice speed, economy of motion and accuracy.

Welcome to the forum NHBob. It is individuals with the experiance like yours that make this forum great.

I just dropped my CCW papers in the mail yesterday so I have no carry experiance. I have shot the Compact 45 and it was accurate shooting off hand for me.

I enjoy the 45 and own only one autoloader, an XD 45 service.

Welcome from Phoenix. I have 3 XD's and every one of them is a great shooter. You won't be disappointed.

Why is that?
I'm curious to know because I am about to get the .45 XD for more stopping power as my HD gun but I prefer to carry the 9mm when out and about as my carry(always hidden, and I do have my CC permit) because of it's lightweight.Thats a stepup from the .380 and .22/.25 pocket guns I was carrying. My buddy who goes to the range with me always takes his custom 1911, and a S&W .45,but he's always asking to shoot my little subcompact 9mm.He has a Glock 9mm we shoot quite a bit also. But he's always raving about my lil 9mm and it's accuracy. Is your aversion to 9mms because of low stopping power when used as CC or HD?I'm curious to know since you're a former trainer. All the guys I know who teach at the range I go to always have the .45s,I see a few carry the XD .45s also, as their carry in plain sight in holsters.Any info is appreciated.
