Question XD-40 "FAILURE TO FEED" - springfield responds

So, I took my CCW class (ohio) this saturday. I bought my XD40 a few months ago - in the middle of the class about 50 rds into our shooting, I got a FTF. No biggie, I dropped the round, and shot another, and BAMN FTF.

Three FTF's in a row after that. - the next mag, all FTF for each round. The gun was FTF for every round.

Once it cooled, no more FTFs until it got hot again. The gun has about 1k rds through it and I figure that it could be mag problem. I bought two mags and they both FTF - I was shooting PMC bronze FMJ, but it does it with federal, winchester, and even wolf (FMJ or JHP)

I finished the class with a SIG .40 but I was dissapointed with the firearm.

I called SA today and they said "overnight it, we'll get it to you in 2-4 weeks - send the mags and everything - and we'll pay your postage etc..."

ok, question #1 - Is this common for the XD-40 (My XD-9 has never once done anything like this) ?

question #2 - Is this a common response from SA? should I have taken it to a local SA dealer?

That's the response I got and, like you, when the gun (XD45 Serv) got hot it was way worse. O'nited it to SA, got it back 1 week later. They reworked the locking block and it seems OK now although I have only shot 100 rounds through it since, all trouble free. They made the ramp much wider, deeper and longer. I think the quality control is awful in these guns but the customer service is very, very good. That helps! I say send it back. Good luck.

I wouldn't mind sending mine in to SA for warranty work but I have other sidearms I can use untill it gets back. For a lot of people the XD is their only firearm.

Thumbs up

I just packaged it up. It will go out tomorrow. I still have my XD-9 to carry - except that it is "illegal" in Columbus (compensated weapons are outlawed here as "assault pistols" - yes XD-9c, even glock XXc, or any other compensated pistol) so I technically can't carry it until March 14th.

whatever.

I am going to send it.

I guess that I was shocked at the customer service, but I was kinda shocked that the gun failed at all. Totally unnacceptable in my mind...
