First of, welcome to the site!

As for the xd357, I won't suggest getting one that highly. I've heard the chambers suffer more wear and tear from the high power catridge. Not to mention the .357 SIG is not a very common catridge. But, hey, if it floats your boat buy it.

Welcome to the site, xd357! I have the XD45 so I can't answer any questions specific to your model.

Flat shooting, fast round. Has been called a 9mm on steroids. (9mm bullet in a .40 s&w case). Snappy but not unmanageable recoil. Great for glass and other situations due to its deep penetration.

I love shooting this round but it can be expensive, the best I've found is 13.99/50 at Cabelas. Also, many stores do not carry the ammo (like Wal-mart) even thou it's getting better I still wouldn't say its readily available.
There are a few others here that have and shoot the 357sig round that will chime in I'm sure.

If you can rent one, do so, that's how it happened to me

Edit: Prices just went up now it's 17.99/50 at Cabelas! I need to start looking around for other prices for my next order.

Thumbs up

I have an XD357sig and I love it. Very fast and powerful, designed to be a auto loading .357 Magnum and comparing the two ballistically it comes very close. I find the recoil to be quicker, but not harder than my friends XD40. Ammo can be hard to find (my Wal-mart does have it), but if look online you can easily find it around the same price per round as the .40S&W; I always do at least. If you reload the prices get even better. The trajectory I’ve found is very flat, even at long range. Many LE agencies are switching over to the .357sig, for its very successful one-shot one-kill ratio when compared to other calibers. You'll hear talks of over-penetration, but I've never had this problem and from tests I've done and what I've seen it isn't really any greater than any other caliber.

Hey I'm new also, but the 357 sig is a fun caliber to shoot, although I do prefer my XD40...

There's really noy that much difference between the two on almost every level.

I would disagree. The 357 SIG has a higher velocity and energy transfer at impact. When we shoot my friends steel plate you can see / hear the difference between the .40 and 357 impact. It's not a scientific test between the two. If you look at the balistics tests the .40 and .357 look like they have similar results or are pretty close. But real world results are different. .357 has better performance in the field. I have yet to read anything on over penetration with 357 Sig rounds.

My XD 357 velocity is between 1350 (WWB) - 1425 fps (Speer GD or Federal HP). My friends glock .40 is between 975 (WWB) - 1025 (HydraShocks) fps.

Either way if you get a firearm in 357 Sig expect to pay a premium price for ammo. Walmart sells WWB 357 Sig for 15.98 a box of 50. For $3 more you can get 100 rnds of .40 or for $12.98 you can get 100 rnds of 9mm. It costs me about $70 w/tax @ 200 rnds in ammo every time I go to the range. So if you are a starving student the 357 Sig is not for you. IMHO it's one of the top handgun calibers out in the market today.

Shot placement is first and foremost with any firearm. But balistics (velocity, energy & penetration) complete the shot. Only a shot to the CNS or by hitting vitals will take a BG down unless they give up. Most handguns perform pretty poorly in the famed one shot stop capability. The 357 SIG makes a big bang when it goes off and recoils about like a .40. I hope that helps.

If you are near Denver PM me I'll let you shoot mine. Welcome to the forum.

The 357 Sig is a good cartridge it shoots flat and fast. IMHO it does not recoil any worse than the 40, but it is louder. I purchased a XD40S first and later purchased a Firedragon 357 Sig barrel, so actually I have both calibers. If you purchase factory ammo the 357 Sig is more expensive than the 40, but if you reload, the 357 Sig is no more expensive to shoot than the 9mm.
