Hi from Sacramento

the first time i ever shot was with one of my criminal justice professors. he took a group of us students to the CordovaShootingCenter one morning and that was it. it also helped that i like girls that shoot guns (is there anything sexier?)

i spent more than $100 just for renting firearms at 2 for $20 and after renting three from my last visit with each gun having misfires/jams i decided to stop going for a while and save up on my own.

after reading quite heavily on the XD for over a year i knew it was the most reasonable gun for me, since a sig226/229 is way too much for a first gun. yup, its my first gun. plus the safeties/packaging/price/extra inch helped sell it. i also considered the M&P and S&W, but again the safeties and package was a deal.

i really wanted a .40 tactical but i plan on going to the range often. i figure this would make me get another caliber gun in the future, rather than wait to get a conversion kit. and would cost a lot less.

i pick up my xd9 tactical on the 23rd. i can't wait to take it out to the range. i have a stock pile of ammo from my last range visit.

for those Sacramento folks pm me and we'll go to a range.
you do meet nice people at the range, nice enough to let you shoot their guns.

Welcome, SimplyOrange! We are happy to have you join us. As soon as you pick up that XD9 and take it out for a run you will have to file a range report and let us know how things went. Hang in there. I know that waiting period can be tough.

i should have set my alarm to play the song "woke up this morning" since i did get myself a gun.

went to pickup my tactical9 then straight to the indoor range i went.
shot only 100rds but was a good start. i had to get used to the gun since i still couldnt figure out how much i had to point at 6 o'clock thing to get to the target. anyways its only been 100rds. also range girls are hot!

i shot 20rds per target, total of five for those non-math majors, lol like me. first two were at 7yds, last three at 10yds. using Win FMJ 115g.

first target

second target> my best 7yds.

third target> 10yds> 1 stray
http://www.freewebs.com/simplyorange537/PICT0003.JPG

fourth target> 10yds> 2 strays, the other was just below the paper. i guess this is my best 10yds for now.

fifth target> 10yds> 1 stray.

all were slowfire except for the second mag of the fifth target which was aim/shoot with a follow up. is there a better name for that? gun performed perfectly, everything else was the shooters fault. lol. a baby crossed the firing line which startled me causing the strays. damn range babies.

mine is def new old stock. test brass is dated june 04. which means i gotta baby this like i baby my car. with cleaning and waxing. i only wiped it down and used the bore snake. im shooting with my cousins on sat (i started a new family tradition) which was why i didnt shoot much the first day.

i also noticed (pics later) that the hood? (ejector port?) has some scuffs on the top edges, the black has rubbed off and is sliver. the guiderod/barrel also has scuff marks where others have them. and that the rear dovetail is a milli left of center. i can see the right line in the rear sight groove.

so a few things im already planning. new tritium sights, duracoat (is that right?), rod/spring kit. maybe a camo design with orange accents, yes thats how much i love the color orange.

also does anyone know the model number for the hks mag-loader? pistolgear is out and the range has some for a little $5 more. just dont know which one if any will fit. thanks.
