I've joined your ranks
I walked into the local gun store earlier today with my mind on just looking at a few guns, browsing around at a few other stores and then finally making a decision. I told the guy behind the counter that I was interested in a 9mm pistol and he started pulling them out. I already did some research, so I had an idea of what I wanted.
First came the Glock 17 and 19 and neither fit. The finger grooves just didn't work for me. My middle finger rested immediately on top of the highest bump and it was just generally uncomfortable. Then came the Taurus 24/7 which had the same problem as the Glocks. As the grooves are soft on it's handle it wasn't as bad, but as the pistol also didn't feel comfortable near the web of my hand, it was a definite no go. The Ruger P95 followed and I just couldn't get a good grip on it. For some reason the bottom of the grip felt like it was too small for my hands. Then the XD 9 was handed to me and I felt like Indiana Jones finding the Holy Grail; it just fit. It came up naturally and fit perfectly in my hand. Everything about it's ergonomics seemed to be made exactly for me. Finally, the Beretta PX4 was given a whirl and it did feel nice. I still prefered the XD 9 slightly to it and as it cost over $150 more, it was set back down. I actually liked the XD 9 so much, my whole idea of sleeping on it didn't work and I purchased it for $468 before tax. Unfortunately, there's a byzantine 48 hour waiting period for handgun purchases here but on Saturday at 1:47 pm, I will be there to collect my new XD 9. Quick question though: do I have to clean it prior to bringing it to the range? I'm assuming yes but as I'm already beyond eager to try it out, that extra hour it takes to clean may prove to be a huge hurdle to overcome. |

Hi... I'm new here too, but have probably read every thread on here
I would pop the slide off and just spray it really quick with oil. I know people on here have fired them fresh from the store, and they're tough guns, but it can't hurt to just throw a quick coat of oil in it. It would take you 2 minutes and you could do it in the parking lot.

Cool story.
The gun is clean from the factory. I don't see a reason to clean it before devirginizing it.

I sent 200 rounds down range before cleaning it. No issues, other than loving the gun.

No need to clean it first, but afterwards...yes. Let's hear from you once you have run a few boxes of ammo through it.

Welcome! Shoot it straight out of the box, then clean it up after.

That is some fantastic news. As the range is about 5 minutes away from the gun shop, I imagine I'll be up and running (gunning?) by 2:15. Only 22 hours and 15 minutes left. I can hardly wait.
