new to the forum and struggling with a hard choice - xd9 or glock 19

Yes i know this is a pro xd forum but i am still asking for opinions.
This will be my first handgun and have held both. I like the feel and grip of the xd9. As for the glock 19 - in my area i have alot more support from gun people and modifications. Am in the los angeles area and am in a toss up.

I already own an XD45, but I have been considering for quite awhile lately whether I should buy the Glock 34 or the XD9 Tactical. They are both fine pistols, but I decided to go with the XD.

I bet you will receive alot of responses to your post. It has to be your decision, but I don't think you will regret it if you select the XD. I am going to monitor his thread to see what you decide. Good luck!

Have you only held them? If so go to a range that rents guns and try shooting them both. If your that close in choosing it should help. Good luck with you decision.

more info

i have also been reading and going to local gun shops:

xd9: 450 + tax
glock 19: 550 + tax

despite the 100.00 difference what are some other benifits on the xd9 over the glock 19??

- feel, the handle saftey, and the angle of the grip on the xd are different.

Exactly how does the angle difference btwn the glock and the xd 9 effect the shooting or is that more the shooter and the training?

Thanks for all your options and help.

Go with the XD you will NOT be disappointed in it. I know quite a few people that wanted a glock until they got one. Now a couple of them are saving up their coins to buy another weapon.

I think the XD sells itself.

Yeah, this is an XD forum and so most of the responses will be for the XD. You'll get the opposite over on Glocktalk. Pretty much they shouldn't mean anything when it comes down to your decision. Both are great guns and would serve you well. With the XD, you have a more "normal" grip angle and size that many find easier to grip, grip safety (some Glock people will say it's bad, many XD people will say it's good. Truly it's either something good that you want or nothing, it's definitely not a "bad" thing), better chamber support for the .40s (vs. older Glocks, they've redesigned to what appears to be equal support recently), and steel sights. The Glocks have a more forward angle grip that *may* be easier for some to shoot (promotes wrist locking imo), more aftermarket support, and trigger adjustments are cheap and easy (really the only thing that I wish the XD had). Both have GREAT warranties and customer service from what I've seen. Both are extremely reliable. Both are more accurate than you're likely to be. Both are right about the same price in my locales (typically Glock will be slightly higher but not much). Both are high quality handguns that should last quite a while for the average shooter.
As for the detractions you're likely to hear from both sides.
Glocks KB problem isn't a big deal and not nearly as prevalent as haters would lead people to believe. Stay away from Reloads or only use your own CAREFULLY reloaded ammo and you should be fine. Or get a new one with the added chamber support.
XDs don't have as much aftermarket support available but how much do you REALLY plan to do? For either, it will usually boil down to a set of sights and a good holster and that's it. Trigger jobs can be done on the Glock by the owner whereas you'll have to pay for them on the XD. That can also be a bad thing for those that are uneasy about working on their own gun. Mags will also be more expensive for the XD.
Glocks have plastic sights from the factory. That one really does kinda suck. If you choose the Glock, look for one with the steel sights or plan on replacing them as they tend to wear quickly.
The V10 XD models tend to be the most unreliable due to the slide porting (seems to be the .40s mostly) but there are many out there with no issues (think Glock KB problem, it's probably not as bad as it looks).

Basically what it boils down to is that you should rent both guns and get 200-300 rounds of ammo and go to the range. See which one is more accurate and which one feels better. Every person will be different. Typically, with the grip angle differences, one will be a bit easier for you than the other. If you do choose the Glock, make sure you find out WHAT you're shooting and buy accordingly. You don't want to rent a box-stock Glock and then end up buying one with the 11-12lb. NY2 trigger and wondering why it feels different. All XDs have the same trigger from the factory so it'll be the same.

Good luck in your decision. It's the same one that I went through several months ago. I chose the XD but still tinker with the idea of picking up a G19 sometime down the road.

You can do what I did. Try the different pistols you are intrested in, and see which one you like. By 'Try' I mean firing a few mags out of each and see how you like it.

Enjoying my XD .45ACP Tactical. need to break in my 870, and my wife's XDSC9.

I carry my XD45 ACP Tactical, in a SuperTuck from CB. Very comfortable, easy to hide, easy to draw, and easy to reholster.

Looking for an HDR*, either an AR-180B, or Kel-Tec FBR.

HDR, Homeland Defense Rifle

If you're really that undecided get both! You don't have to buy them at the same time if money is a big factor. Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Was in same boat as you 2 years ago at this time. So, I went to our local indoor shooting range, became a member, and rented both guns to try. They are both great guns. The Glock may have just a bit fewer working parts, but not many. I don't think that's the overriding factor. The XD has a grip safety and a very visible loaded chamber indicator, which is what tipped the scales for me. Those features may not be important to some, but for someone who was new to polymer pistols, I thought they would help. Also, the XD just felt better in my hand, and I was little more accurate with the XD than the Glock, I think because it had a better feel, so I was more comfortable with it. Plus, I really liked the stainless steel finish on the XD, which had just come out the year before. So, I bought an XD9. Now, I'm thinking about getting the Glock 19 too. It's that, or a new Ipod, can't decide which, and have to decide which has a higher priority right now. LOL Am thinking about getting my CCW, thus the reasoning for wanting another handgun, but also just because.
