Just bought two XD's this past week, a .45acp Tactical and a .45acp 4" Compact. This despite the thread extolling the virtues of the 9mm over the .45acp, must be old fashioned. Both are now with Rich for trigger jobs and sights, he seems to come up as the guy to use no matter who I've talked to. This is my first serious venture to the dark side (polymer) pistols and away from 1911's.

I've been a hunter since 12 years old, but shooting pistols about 10 years. Background:
Gunsite 250
Gunsite Tactical shotgun
Thunder Ranch Defensive Pistol 2
Thunder Ranch Urban Rifle

Since I'm waiting for both of the pistols to come back I've turned to gear selection. Historically have always used Milt Sparks and Blade Tech. Just seems that Kydex is a natural match for polymer pistol. Any other comments, specific choices or manufacturers would be appreciated (should this request for info go to another forum?).

What will you use it for - daily carry, USPSA events, cowboy shooting (JK)?

Nothing wrong with getting a .45 if you have some experience and can afford the ammo! Yes, I have been tempted.

carry options

Paul,

Pardon me for not being very helpful with the particulars of needs. Tactical will be a general purpose holster. That is, range, carry in the field when big game hunting and carry under appropriate cover garments if desired. Probably straight drop or adjustable rather than FBI cant only. The Compact I purchased specifically for concealed carry, it is close to the CCO that Colt doesn't produce any more (Officer's frame with Commander slide). I'm
partial to IWB holsters for CCW for either my Officer's model or Gov model. I'm 6"2' 185 and always felt the slide length was of not much consequence to hide compared to the grip length. Off side I like a single mag/light combo for concealed carry and a double mag for the Tactical.

Hey Docbill, I'm in Parker. A bunch of us in the Denver area get together once in a while to shoot. Keep an eye out for our next outing. Last one we had was a blast.
