Hello

Excited new XD subcompact 3" owner here.

I just picked up the new gun on Saturday; I haven't been able to clean it to fire it for the first time, but used my range's gun and absolutely fell in love with it.

I'm new to firearms overall, so I'm a little nervous about the lack of a flip safety, but the double safeties of trigger and grip make me feel slightly better.

I'll be reading to bring myself up to speed....

Those safety's are safer than you would think

The first time my wife shot the gun she failed to fully engage the grip safety. She was actually trying to shoot the gun and it wouldn't fire. I told her to move her hand up a little higher and everything was fine.

This happened on another occasion with someone trying out my XD Sub-Compact at the range. This guy was more familiar with firearms than my wife and he did the same thing.

To build confidence in the safety systems of your gun try the following: Leave the gun unloaded but cocked. Holster the weapon. Wear it around the house for a week or two, jump around with it, roll around on the floor, do backflips or whatever and see if you can cause the gun to accidentally dry fire.

Welcome. I encourage you to never take my advice, as I often have no clue what I'm talking about. But many others here do, which explains my presence. Again, welcome.
