Hello
Hey everyone. I am from MO and I am an XD love just like you all. I am currently a Criminology major at one of MO's fine Universities and will be graduating next year where I hope to persue a great career in Federal law enforcement.
I do have a quick question. I am getting ready to purchase a Service model XD chambered in .40 caliber. Anyone see anything wrong with the .40 caliber? I see more love for the 9mm and the 45 on here than anything, why not something inbetween? Well, have a good day. |

Nothing wrong with a .40. The 9mm is cheaper on ammo and higher capacity. The .45 XD came about, complete with 13 rounds and thats a huge bonus for a .45. I own 1-.45 caliber handgun and 3-.40 caliber guns. Its easier on the recoil, wallet and you get good power out of it, it fills the void quite well.
Welcome aboard

Welcome aboard! You will learn a lot on here, and maybe even teach some of us a thing or two!
I think it's just personal preference really, whatever you are comfortable with is what you will carry the most. Some guys like "the biggest hole I can make" and some like the smaller size and feel of the 9mm. Then there is the undeniable fact that the .45 has been proven in many battles over, what, 100+ years? I have a .40 service, and love it, but I do like the feel of a 9mm myself, looks like I'll have to get both! Just remember, a (9mm/.357/.40/.45) XD on your hip is better than a .50 left in the safe! (IMHO)

I have 2 40's in service size and have done enough testing for me to be happy with that Cal. I also have conversion barrels that allow me to shoot 9mm and 357Sig if I choose overall I carry the 40 from about mid May to end of Sept. here as I sweat and the stainless slide doesn't rust or at least in the 3 or so years I've had mine, in winter it's a 1911 either OWB or shoulder holster in 45

I read somewhere that the .40 is the best selling caliber now for LE. I have no idea if it is true? The XD40 has a snappy recoil. Expect to spend some time to shoot it well. If I had to carry for a living that is what I would get.

All that said about the .40 is, I am sure, correct, but I love my .45.

Thanks for the greetings everyone. I am planning on purchasing my XD tomorrow (Friday). To not be mistaken, all XD's made past June are coated in the Melonite finish, correct? How can I make sure mine was made after June of 06? I know to look at the serial number, but do the first numbers indicate the date manufactured? Thanks again!

The only way I know of to know for sure is to call in the Ser # to SA. They know.
