New member - Recommended Mods

Hi all. I'm new to the board and I'd like some recommendations for mods to my new XD 45ACP Tactical Bi-Tone. The primary use is the range with family and friends, and maybe competition if I get good enough.

Some of the mods I'm considering:

Canyon Creek Trigger job - 4#
Polishing of Feed Ramp
Bo-mar rear sight
Dawson front sight
Slide tightening
External slide lightening - Angle cuts
Canyon Creek Tungsten Rod
Recoil spring - 18#
Extended mag release
Stainless steel Magwell (Big Glup)
MAGLOC Tactical Recoil Control Thumb Rest
Hard chromed parts (make it even better looking)

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Cant offer any real feedback to your wanted mods, except they look like a great start to me, but anyways... welcome aboard, you'll love this forum.

Welcome to the forum. Thats a heck of a list. Looks like you have it covered. If you plan on competition shooting (IDPA/IPSC) make sure the mods you do are going to do will be legal for the division(s) you plan on shooting in.

Folks correct me if I'm wrong, but if he does ALL of those MODS, would he have to be in USPSA only with that gun?

BTW: great mod list.

I haven't been to any competitions yet, so I better study up on what is legal for each type before I mod my new baby.

BTW - I like wearing gloves to the range instead of tape or a grip. I usually sneak off between customer calls, so the gloves are nice. Is it okay to wear gloves during competitons?

The MagLoc I would totally skip along with a tungsten rod. Just my 2 cents.

Nobody wears gloves in USPSA. Allowed, Yes. But don't.

I too feel you can drop the thumb rest from your list.

If you are shooting reloaded ammo with a PF between 165-17, you will really feel the difference in the tungsten rod. If you are shooting 190 PF factory loads, they may over power the advantage offered by the heavy guide rod.

Thanks for the responses so far.

I'm rethinking the Bo-Mar rear because of my eye sight. I had Lasik and I'm having problems with focusing clearly on close objects. I probably will have a "tweek" in a month or two to try making things more clear. I didn't have trouble with my glasses (progressives).

Do you think a Dawson rear with Tritium would be better?
