New Here...

I haven't purchased my XD yet but I am seriously thinking of trading my S&W Sigma 9mm for an XD-9 (Almost made this trade yesterday but I didn't have my sigma with me and the gun show I was at is a 40 minute drive from my house). I really like my Sigma but the lack of safety features makes me a little nervous. It was my first gun purchase and now I regret not looking into a pistol with more than just the double hinge trigger safety. I like the 1911 grip angle and it feels great in my hand also the palm safety is a nice addition to the polymer pistols. Safety is of utmost importance to me and I feel more comfortable with the added palm safety.

I just have one question.

Has Springfield done anything about the wear problems on the inside of the slide and on the top and side of the barrel? I saw some pictures of an XD with what I would call "Excessive" wear on the inside of the slide and on the top and side of the barrel and "chamber" area.

Edit* I would also like to address the slide finish. How can I tell if the gun I am purchasing has the new melonite (sp?) finish on it? Is there a certain serial number it started with or does it state the finish type on the case?

I found a picture of the top of the barrel chamber area...

I was wondering if this is a common problem or if this is just a one in a million type thing.

Unlike other forums (which shall remain nameless to protect the gun curmudgeons who frequent them), you will never be flamed on this site for failure to use the search function or other forms of google-fu before posting a question. We've all been guilty of it at one time or another.

We will, however, fart in your general direction, question your lineage with regards to crossbreeding with a hamster, and line up credible witnesses who will testify that your mother did, in fact, smell of elderberries.

Welcome to the forum.
