Just bought my XD
Hi folks... nice to meet everyone.
I just bought an XD-9 (4", bi-tone) at a local gun show yesterday. I found *exactly* what I was looking for so I decided to snatch it. There are plenty like it, but this one is mine ![]() I don't carry, but I hope this makes for a nice home/target gun. I can't wait to get to the range and break it in. Of course not having fired it yet, my biggest fear is whether or not it will work |

Congratulations and welcome to XDTalk.
You'll like your XD9 - may want to give it a quick clean before taking it out for its initial shoot.

Welcome! I had a few FTEs when mine was new and still under 500 rounds. Now that I'm over 7000 rounds, it's been flawless and I still put 100 rounds through a 3-4 inch hole at 7 yards.

From the sounds of it, I should expect some failures while the gun is still breaking in? Or is that cause to send it back to SA for warranty work? I'm not familiar with what ammunition works best with the XD yet, but I bought 200 rounds of Fiocchi 123grn FMJ for now. They were only $7/box at the show and I've read great things about Fiocchi.
PackerfanXD, that's an interesting grip mod you did to that 4" XD. I don't know how you can stand to do that to a relatively new gun though. I'd freak out if someone went near my gun with a Dremel Last edited by XDAndMe; 09-17-2006 at 09:09 AM. |

Brush up on cleaning and lube practices, as well as shooting and safety skills, and you'll be fine.

Coming from a long gun background, I'm fairly new to handguns. However I've been doing a lot of research into pistols and practicing at the range. Below is one of my first targets when I was learning how to shoot a pistol. The weapon was a Sig P228 in 9mm. I would say the distance was within 10-15yds. There are few "flyers" because I wasn't used to the hard trigger pull on the first round of the DA/SA trigger. Don't laugh, I was still a newbie:
Since then, I've been practicing with my friend's Glock 23. I've also used a Glock 31 and an HK USP .45 compact. Not very accurate with the .45 yet I chose the XD9 because it felt great. It seems well designed and well balanced. It looks great to me, and I think 9mm is the perfect caliber for me... at least for the time being. My other gun is a 12ga Mossberg 535 ATS for sporting purposes. Everything else that I've used growing up has either been my father's or someone else's. |
