Howdy! I exercised my 2nd Amendment rights this past week and purchased my first firearm, the Springfield XD 40. Although I've grown up around firearms all my life, we just never had one in the household. Figured it was time. I really like everything I've read about the XD, took it out this past weekend and squeezed off about 60 rounds. I really liked it, and while I've always been a fairly decent shot with a rifle, I apparently need to clock in a few more hours with a hand gun! Also got a crimson trace lasergrip for the hell of it. Figured it wasn't a bad idea in the event of home defense at night, especially for my wife. Again, I've grown up around firearms, my Dad was in the Marines, Navy and was Deputy Sheriff of Dallas before I was born, but I still plan on taking a firearms safety course and getting my CHL. Will also train the wife and get her into the safety course, and will be teaching our 6 year old little girl about gun safety in the house. I have a case with a lock, where the firearm will be stored, unloaded, while not in use. Already looking into additional accessories to pick up. Looking forward to spending lots of time on the range with this excellent weapon! Thanks in advance to all here for sharing their knowledge and experience!
