Stop pointing it at the cat. Grandpa always said, "Never point at people ever unless you have a reason to kill them, never point at anything else alive that you aren't willing to clean and cook for dinner tonight, and never point at anything not alive you don't have the cash to replace today. And stop playing with your gun."
That said, find an instructor, learn the value of dry-fire, and pick appropriate stuff to aim at for practice.
Oh and most importantly, have fun. The XDS is a blast to shoot.
The have fun part goes with the Safety part... Would it be fun to shoot the cat, in the real world? No. The TV? Probably not. Depends on what's on and how much cash you have in your pocket for a bigger one. Ha. Kidding. Not fun.
