New from Wisconsin
I just bought my 1st Springfield pistol and I'm impressed! My compact XDM .40 is an amazing gun. I just have a few questions for everyone being the XDM is my 1st polymer gun.
1. What do you recommend I use to clean it.
2. What's the best target/practice ammo to use?
3. Any word on a XD-S in .40 or 9mm.

Welcome from Iowa! You'll love using your new XDM for sure! To answer your questions, I could only provide opinions...but here goes:
1. I use Ballistol. It's a CLP that has acid neutralizing components. It cleans guns, shines wood finish, and goes great on mashed potatoes (not really). However, I've also used Mil-Com and Hoppes. Either are great. It's really all up to you. However, I stay away from CLP.
2. That's also a subjective question. I've never had a problem with any ammo in relation to my XD. However, I tend to stay away from cheap brands that use corrosives. -Not because I hate cleaning, just because I like to take care of my firearms. I've had the most accurate results so far with Federal .40 HP in my sub-compact, so that's what I use. Experiment and you'll find something that works for you.
3. *revised* It looks like only .45 now, but it would make sense later on, I think.
Enjoy your time here, you'll learn much!

and hello from Up North!
In regards to ammo for target practice? You can probably find Federal Premium at WallyWorld for a decent price (under $30). Winchester White Box (WWB) for a couple bucks more. Both will feed and fire. BUT, you should try out as many as you need to to find what your individual pistol will reliably function with.
