Sadly, those officers had no clues.

The range at Floyd Lamb is pretty good, obviously you'd prefer to go during the week, as Sat and Sun can fill up in the early afternoon, but the facility is pretty good. Staff is friendly and pretty helpful if you need assistance. Range control is adequate.
Shotgun range is *AWESOME*. Best I've ever used, absolutely state of the art. Pay for clays, get your bay, go over the procedure to shoot, step to the line, look at the microphone, speak the word "pull" and shoot the clay as it is flung. very nice. and pretty big. I've not used the archery range or the special event range yet.
