Seymour Johnson AFB (Goldsboro) NC
Thought this would be a good place for my first post. Just picked up my first firearm, an XD 45 service w/thumb safety. I really enjoy shooting it.
It would be pretty cool if the site could get one of those maps that shows a mark for each member in their location.
I'm stationed in NC for now and will be moving to Alaska this December.

Hi y'all from Daytona Beach
I've owned an H2000 and an XD and think they are great pistols. Having carried a 1911 of one form or another since I was 16 (about 100 years ago) I'm still partial to the old war horse and own a Wilson CQB and a Para Ord Night Hawg. But no doubt about it, especially in a semi tropical climate, they are tough to carry discretely in the summer. So I'm looking at the SC model and would like to get the .40 S&W with a conversion barrel for .357 Sig. I haven't looked through the forum yet but, if anyone has some advice or experience with such a setup I'd appreciate hearing it.
I retired a few years ago as the commanding officer of a sheriff's department and was an academy certified firearms instructor. At that time a few area departments had gone to the Glock (only 9 mm was available) and besides an aversion to a caliber beginning with anything less than a 4, I just didn't like a gun that felt like a 2X4 in my hand. We went to the Sig P220 and were very happy with it. Knowing the .357 Mag is still the benchmark cartridge to judge "stopping" power, I make an exception to my 4 rule in that case, and I also have the little J frame Scandium S&W in .357. A 12 ounce carry gun is nice, even if it does kick like a howitzer. But hell, if I know I'm likely to get into a situation where a gun is handy I'm taking the little baby in my Avatar. There isn't too much more intimidating coming out from under your jacket than a 12 ga with a pistol grip and a 6 1/2 inch barrel. I'd really rather intimidate myself out of a fight than even win it.
So that's my story and I'm sticking with it. I'll be picking up an XD of some sort soon, depending on what you guys advise. Nice to be aboard.

I put together a Google Map for the member to add their locations to.
XDTalk Member Distribution - Google Maps
Add your placemark, then rt-click and edit the properties for it. For the name use your member name (i.e.: texan_eagle_scout). In the description box, you can add zip code, maybe a first name, or something about yourself.
