I would say it depends on if the guys in the local shop are nice and knowledgable. If you think you might hang out there a lot, I'd say pony up, you might need their help later. If they are d-bags, buy online.[/quote]

You can also ask them to work with you, tell them you want to purchase there, but the price difference is too big. Factor in Shipping, and the FFL transfer and the prices don't have to match exactly, just ask and see if they are willing to close the difference a bit.

The only way our country will fail is if we continue to allow people to live a lifetime without facing accountability for their actions.

Thanks everybody.
I went to a couple local shops and looked at/priced some handguns.....here's how it went. One place (I've heard gives GREAT customer service, yada-yada) I went to their shop and the prices were alot higher that most. The 1st time I went there no one would even acknowledge I was there. No problem, everyone has bad days, so I came back another day. The guy that helped me seemed irritated that I didn't know what I wanted and wasn't ready to buy something. So after looking at several different guns, I asked about negotiating prices down. The guy acted insulted, so I showed him what other stores and online places were selling them for and he straight up said "Look, our prices are fair, we're not trying to screw anybody. We set our prices based on what we think they should be, not what other people sell them for". So I said, "ok, thanks for your time" and left.
Went to another place, prices weren't that much lower but the guy was supernice and showed me a ton of different guns. The only thing was, he was pushing stuff other than XDs pretty hard. However, even the cheapest place was still $100 more than online prices (because of sales tax here ~9.25%).
So I went with thunderjohn here on the forums. He's been super-nice and super-accommodating so far.
I can't wait to get it. Hopefully it will be here this weekend.
