New gun owner from SoCal
Hey all. Purchased my first ever gun, an XD 9mm, a few days ago. Picking it up Friday. Can't wait to put a couple rounds through it. I was lucky enough to get a hold of a couple boxes from walmart this weekend so I should have enough ammo to last me a bit.
I've been lurking on this forum for a bit and have come to realize that there's definitely some good information to learn on here. I should note that I have not had any formal training, although I was taught by my friend who showed me different tips on shooting, keeping safety in mind at all times. I guess I need to take a gun class anyway but in reality, how much more will I learn in that class? I really hope that question isn't as stupid as it sounds. |

Greetings from SoCal (the OC).
This guy offers reasonably priced classes at Burro Canyon above Azusa. For a much higher level of training, look at Front Sight. Expensive, but competitive with the other shooting academies like GunSite or Thunder Ranch. Sometimes FS has special offers at much reduced prices. |

Welcome to the forum. Definetly take a course, especially if you are new to shooting as a whole. There's the old saying "you don't know what you don't know until you know it." Good instruction will teach you how to shoot but also how NOT to shoot, both in terms of the physical techniques but also in terms of legality, such as self defense. There's always something to learn, even for someone who's been shooting forever, but especailly for a newbie. From your post, it sounds like you're very much on the right track, keep up training, keep practicing, be safe, and enjoy!
