I'm a noob to this one, too.

I have been a lifelong motorsports fan and true car-nut, but I've actually never participated, myself, in motorsports, until my cherry was popped this past November, when I was generously invited by Michelin to witness the unveiling of their new Pilot Super Sport line, in Dubai, UAE.

Driving a still-new-smelling 911 Carrera S around the Dubai Autodrome was surreal, to say the least - particularly as it was my absolute first track experience.

A lot of the guys and gals there are Porsche/BMW guys - anywhere from experienced club racers to professional drivers - and they were a wonderful bunch who encouraged me and nurtured me (special thanks to the Badger Bimmers members ). So, now, I'm pretty much working on selling my old project car, to replace with a E36-series RWD coupe, with a healthy tire budget.

To say that I'm now hooked on track racing is an understatement..... See you guys and gals out there!

its definitely addicting that first time you try it. glad to hear you had a good group to start with and what a place to start. unfortunately most of the PCA groups around here seem to be a bit elitist if you drive something besides a porsche. the e36 is a nice choice - ive seen a lot of older bmw's on the track due to their weight balance.

^ That's what I'm looking for - a relatively affordable yet nicely balanced vehicle with known behavior/handling traits (so that I can more easily solicit advice and instruction), and to focus on my driving, with budgeting towards maintenance, repair, as well as tires.

The snotty atmosphere, if-present, I can deal with. I'm old enough to be able to laugh at myself.

ya it becomes quite an expensive hobby when you factor in all the maintenance. im happy to get out there 3-4 times a year.

now i usually go with a group of friends so we just have our own fun. im jealous of some of the cars my friends drive: viper gts, mb c63, audi r8, few gt-r's and even a gallardo superleggera. but we're all pretty easy going and just out there to have a good time. plus i like being about to keep up and pass "faster" porsches.

^ Heck, with your ride, you really don't have much to be jealous of.

Well, OK, maybe just a little.

+100% That is my kind of road racing, even though I've never got to do it on a track. I have put a few guys to shame on the street when I was younger. I have taken 2 different bikes to local drag strips. I didn't set any records when I took my 1978 Honda 750K to the strip, but the bike did turn a lot of heads. All the younger guys asking what it was, the older guys just said yea, I had a 750 too, way back when.

I love road course racing. Any kind. Big autocross/gymkhana and drift fan. I'm about an hour from VIR and have went and watched a few different events. However I drive a 4x4 3/4 ton truck so I'm stuck with doing my racing in the dirt and mud.
