Anyone own a Colt XSE 1911?

I have an acquaintance that is looking to sell a nearly new Colt XSE 1911 5" model that is blued with double diamond rosewood grips. Pretty much bone stock and the thing looks like it was made last week. Not a scratch on it.

This is a guy who has alot of money and buys and sells alot of high end toys like motorcycles, expensive golf clubs and yes...sometimes nice guns. The guy ran maybe 2-5 boxes through the thing and it sat in his closet in the factory Colt box. He has the manual, warranty card, lock and everything just as you would buy it new.

I am not really in the market for something like this, but when he said he'd take 650 dollars for it....I might be!

First, does anyone have a Colt XSE 1911? Its loaded with alot more doo-dads than my other 1911s. It looks to have the same level of goodies as a Springer Loaded or Kimber Custom II. Never seen one of those selling for 650 in any condition.

If you own one...how do you like it? Acccurate? Reliable?
My expereinces with the two Colt 1911s i still own has been that they're usually pretty accurate but need some tweaking to be 100% reliable.

Also...is this a good price for a nearly new blued XSE? Around here, I see the more basic M1991 and NRM Series 70 Colts running in the mid 700s to 850. I am guessing this XSE runs alot more. Hey, its a Colt...they hold their value no matter what...right? It is the original article.

Any opinions on the XSE would be appreciated. The guy is in no hurry to sell it and nobody else he knows wants to buy it...so who knows? On the surface...it just seems too cheap to pass up.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

My response might not be very informative, but I think that's a good deal. I have a Colt Gold Cup Trophy, which isn't an XSE, but is the best shooting 1911 I have ever handled. I have had my paws on a stainless commander XSE, model 04012XSE, and it seems awesome; to the point that I am seriously considering selling my XD45c and buying one of those for carry. I really like the Colt products, it's too bad the gun mags ignore them because Colt doesn't advertise. Good luck on your decision. If I wanted a 5 incher, I'd be trying to steal that thing away from you!

It's a pretty good price. The new ones are generally going for $800+. I wouldn't say it's anything special for a 1911 of that price. It should have a nice trigger and have a nice fit and finish, but nothing spectacular or out of the ordinary. White dot, non-adjustable sights...I don't think it has checkering on the front straps, ambi safety...all the typical stuff for one in that price range.

There is a parts count on another 1911 web board that lists that Colts like this have only 2 or 3 MIM parts. Seeing that just about every other comparable 1911 in the XSEs class is riddled with MIM parts (Springer Loaded and Kimber Custom II) 650 bucks for a no-MIM 1911 from the original 1911 maker might not be a bad deal.

Even if I have to do some smithing to make it 100%..at that price...I am VERY tempted to pick it up.

I detest fromt strap checkering (like holding a file) and adjustable sights are delecate and finicky and have no place on a working gun if you ask me. I might have to swap out the flat backstrap...I am old school and all my 1911s have arched ones. No biggie, Smith & Alexander have one for cheap.

Besides, its a Colt and you can almost always get your money back out of a Colt. An advantage to having the original article.
