Kimber break in time
The more I read the more conflicting information I find.
The manual for my Kimber states there is a substantial break in time. The first box of WWB I put through it went off without a hitch. Next box of WWB had multiple FTF's. No FTE's, just FTF. My question I guess is what experince have you Kimber guys had with WWB and break in periods? The pistol is a Raptor II. Thanks. |

I'm breaking in my Kimber right now, and haven't had any issues after the first 100 rounds of Magtech. Had 1 of my Kim-Pro 8 round magazines that didn't like to feed the first round cleenly, but it cleared up with a little wear (only happened on the first 2 uses). Was shooting 3" left at the beginning and crept to 1" left by the end of the session. I'll use some WWB this weekend and get back to you.

TW keep it oiled well during your first few range visits, all Kimbers are tight and most need a break in period. I prefer a heavier oil during range visits, I use Mobil 1 20W50 believe it or not and it works great. My wife bought me the complete set of Raptors for our 25th anniversary a couple of years ago and the PRO took almost 500 rds to get broke in right while the other 3 ( Grand- RartorII and the ultra ) were good to go out of the box.

I bought a Raptor II in Feb. and had a few FTE's during break in. I used all different ammo just to switch it up, although I didn't use any WWB.
During break in I'd keep the gun oiled on the heavy side. You don't need a TON of oil, just a little more than usual. I field stripped it and cleaned it after every 50-100 rnds until it felt like it was broken in (about 500 rounds or so). Try some different ammo for a range visit or 2 then go back to the WWB and see how it operates then. I love my Raptor, great gun. |

All mine seemed a little diffrent at first. My newest, A warrior, would be fine one week then the next time I'd get a few FTF's or failures to chamber. Next time it would be fine. That said I didn't do a good job of watching which mags I was using, because honestly some 1911's just don't like some mags.
Its my understanding, and I tend to believe it from personal experience, that Kimber makes their cambers extremely tight and that's a reason they seem quirky early on. Brett IYAAYAS ret |

I always replace the stock magazine with a Kimber ProTec and get the dremel out and polish up the feed ramp from the start. Ever since I started doing that, none of my new kimbers have gave me any problems before the 450rd suggested break in period, including the feeding of hollow points.

One thing I have noticed is that the Kimber's don't like cheap mags. Try out a Wilson Combat.
