Kimber good for carry or not
My boyfriend is wanting to buy a kimber but the guy at the gun shop said he would have to run about 1000 rounds through it before he could use it for a carry gun. Is this true or not?

maybe, maybe not. depends how comfortable your bf wants to be with the weapon. i'd like to know if it's going to operate reliably, so i'd say yes. what is this, ask a random question day?

I would want to put a reasonable number of rounds through any gun that I may entrust my life with. I think the recommendation was based less on the brand or model of firearm and more on common sense. You need to train with any weapon you are planning on using to defend your life. Also be it an XD, Glock, 1911, Sig, whatever they all produce bad guns from time to time. You don't want to take anything out of the box and throw it on your belt. Just my .02

Kimbers do have a fairly high number of rounds for the break in period. I would suspect that is what the gunshop was referring to. Problem is they could have provided you/him with some details to back up his answer. I would also agree that he needs to spend some quality range time, think a lot of rounds fired, so he is very familiar and comfortable with the weapon before betting his life, and maybe yours, on it.

Sounds like you are getting somewhat beat up. That being said, I bought a Springfield 1911A1 Loaded and I had to put around 300 rounds through it before it became reliable enough for me to carry.
I think 1000 rounds is a bit excessive and don't believe you would need to put that many rounds though any weapon to break it in. If after 300-400 rounds if it was not reliably functioning, assuming that I was using good ammo and that the magazines were in good working order, I would have to conclude there was a problem and contact the manufacture. |
