Is This Normal? *PICS*
I was cleaning my Kimber Ultra Carry II last night and discovered some weird wear marks.
The first one I noticed is actually a deep gouge. I know the pictures are terrible but all I have is a camera phone. ![]() The second is two gouges on the inside of the frame rails. It's the same way on both sides. ![]() If the pistol is in battery and I slowly pull the slide back I can feel a lot of resistance and some metal on metal grinding for the first 1/8 inch. I always clean it after I shoot it and use Hoppe's #9 lubricate. I have had a lot of feed issues with this pistol and I bought it as my main carry gun. Should I give Kimber a call tomorrow and send it in or does this look normal? Thanks, Jesse

First, I do not consider #9 oil to be enough of a lube for a 1911. Move to a heavier oil, or even consider some grease or slide glide.
Second, that does not sound, or look, normal. I would guess that something is warped. Either way get it back to Kimber to get it fixed. That sort of wear/dragging can cause some serious issues.

Thanks Bidah, I was totally unaware that Hoppe's wouldn't cut it. The pistol has 300ish rounds through it. Every 50 rounds or so I field stripped it and made sure it was lubed well. I mean, I just spent a lot of money (to me anyways) on this thing so I was extra careful. I'll give Kimber a call tomorrow and see what they will do for me.
Thanks again, Jesse

Well your first issue is that something is not right, so that needs fixed first. I have 2 Kimber 1911's with thousands through them, no problem. Of course that isn't saying much in the grand scheme of things.
As to lubrication.. there are lots of good products out there, some almost specifically for the 1911, where Slide Glide comes to mind (I have not used it though). When I hear Hoppes, I think "mineral oil".

I have a gental scratch where you have the first pic posted. And by gental, I mean the finish is missing, no gouge.

Agree with the other posters and I actually use slide glide and strongly recommend the stuff. It is awesome!

Tetra gungrease here. Or gun butter (a little on the thin side vs grease though)

Everyone has an opinon and here is mine. First we need to get you a camra! Good god man, second if its not functioning properly, don't carry it. It could cost you dearly! You are right, there is some concern there, please have it looked at.
