New to 1911

I want to acquire a 1911. My budget will be $600 max. What is the "best" I can get in this range?

Lots of great choices in that price range.

You can definitely get a good Springfield for that.
The STI Spartan and the Taurus should be in the running as well.

You can also get a used 1911 for that amount.

That is part of the beauty of the 1911 is that there are a bunch out there and the upgrade options are plentiful.

1911

I am also in the market for a nice 1911. I can only share my research thus far as I have not made a final decision. I am currently favoring the colt 1911. Def more than your price range if you are looking to buy new but sometimes you can find them gently used in that price range. I also love the springfield models of the 1911 frame. Hight in my competition range. Another 1911 to consider in my opinion is the Sig 1911 but again you would have to get a used one to fit that price range. The only ones that I have not liked thus far were the browning and the beretta.

My two cents.

I was not aware that Browning or Beretta made a 1911.

Another point to consider when doing your research is the warranty offered by the manufacturer. Even though most modern firearms don't require service, knowing it is there is helpful!

Doesn't everybody AND his brother make a M1911 ? The design has long been basically in the public domain ...

Springfield-Armory, no question.

LIFETIME warranty
Excellent customer service
Very good QC
Highly upgradable

If you can handle the steel sights, the GI or MilSpecs are very good. If not, go Loaded full-sized. And for the "true 1911" experience, no full-length guide rod.

Shoot safe!

just because somebody shld tell ya also look at a rock island armory tactical finding them in the 425-480 range only thing in my opinion that needs changed and if you get used to them nt even those is the GI sights. got all of the other upgrades from a standard gi model pretty good guns you could save a bit of money lft over and buy yourself some more ammo to feed the beast. i had a GI RIA put nearly 5000 rnds through it without a hitch with every type of ammo i cld get my hands on. only problems i had were in the first 200rnds a couple of ftf switched magazines to a kimber pro ss mags never had another problem. other than that i'd go with a springfield armory or sti

I was wondering about the RIAs and the only problem I have read is as you say, crap mags = easy fix. How is the accuracy? I do like the look and from what I can see the customer service seems good.
