Yeah I wish I didn't have to sell my PT to get this one, but I'm also helping a friend out by selling it to him. It gives me an excuse to get an LCP or Kel-Tec next month.

$800 ish 1911? My vote goes for Dan Wesson. I've been very happy with my CBOB.

To be competitive with a 1911 the modifications aren't practical for CCW. Once you lower the trigger pull, put a magwell, increase mag capacity, increase/decrease weight, you will not want to carry it. The light trigger pull and other such mods make it to easy to go off. That only applies to making a race gun. But everyone I know that starts out with a lower end 1911 ends up making the upgrades even if they aren't planned. The XD is a good production pistol in IPSC and IDPA. Because of the mods you will want to make to a 1911 you will become non-idpa. Go with the XD because of the cross duty.

Save the $100 on the purchase price and get a guide rod upgrade and it goes nice with the Ruger LCP.

Part of the reason I am pro this decsision as I was faced with the same thoughts a while back. I bought the first available LCP and went with the XDm.

Back to the SA 1911... It is a pretty gun but doesn't hold a light to the lower end CZ's or STI, which are about 2x the price of the SA. I have shoot all of them and really like the STI. When my funds are finally right I will be getting the STI Executive or the STI Legend. For $500 range you are getting IMO the best production compeition ready guns. For a little more you can get the XDM which is in .40 S&W. It is worth the upgrades for out of the box competition. I wrote some poorly worded XDM reviews on my blog Review and a Torture Test. I also wrote about the Ruger LCP 380 on my teams blog. Intro into my search for the Ruger then the performance Ruger LCP 380 vs. Kel-tec's A3AT
LOL Anything short of a STI I've been using my Kimber Custom Target 2 for a few years with a Springer Mil Spec that has a few bells and whistles as a back up "Never needed by the way" and have suprised more than a few STI owners along the way. It aint the gun hoss its the man behind it. Don't get me wrong I love the STI Trojan+ and it is a great gun but if you dont know the basics I'll run right up and over you with a gun that costs $300 less. I've even given a run to some pro's in my day.

I didn't order from Bud's because my local guy matched the price surprisingly, so I felt I should buy local and support 'em.

You betcha I'll let you know though, I'm stoked to use it. Going to the range this weekend after I field strip it and clean/lube 'er up. I'll get pics up ASAP though when I pick 'er up tomorrow.

I am up for a good lesson! I agree that no matter the weapon it is all about the "Hoss" behind it. As far as my opinion goes... I like the STI for competition (don't own one, yet!). STI's are expensive. For the money I could buy a lot of gas for my hog but sure wouldn't be as much fun. Kimber's are nice weapons but just don't suit my fancy for a competition weapon.

Since I am not an owner I have done my fair share of competeting against them. Once upon a time... I bowled over a couple STI's and Kimber's with my H&K USP .40!!! Then it broke down and I changed over to the XD(m).

You get some looks when you pull the ol' H&K out, beat up, dirty and slide it into an uncle mikes. Drop a few rounds and then thoose kimber, cz, and sti guys go adjusting to see what they can do to cut times like that. So here here! It is the man not the weapon. But dang the style and class of thoose weapons (1911's) are amazing. I would love to have an Older Kimber for the collection but not for compeititon. I haven't seen them perform as well.

Wear your safety glasses. It will save your eyes when the Para starts shucking parts your way.
