Taurus 1911s

Anyone own/owned a Taurus 1911? I want to know if it's been reliable for you. It's seems to be a great gun for a great price.

I know there are threads in this forum about Taurus 1911 compared to lower-end springfields, but i just wanted to know if Taurus 1911 on its own was worth the price.

gunshow price here in DFW area is about $500 ~ $525 for the blued version.

Mine has been flawless for about 1000 rounds now. I had a couple of fail to feeds the first time I fired it but that was the mag lips on one mag.

It's a great 1911 for the money for sure and very accurate. The finish on the blue model is a tad weak but that's it as far as I'm concerned . . .

There is one in my 'familly' and it shoots great. Had it out three weeks ago and it shot like a dream. I put rubber wraparound grips on it with finger grooves and it is even better. I might get another one jut to have one...though I am toying between that and a SA Loaded.

They are not bad for the price, I have owned two and had no real problems.
Maybe I'm just spoiled with my Kimbers and Wilson Combats, but now of days I rather save up for a high end 1911 rather then buy a lower end one.

you dont notice the low end quality of a Taurus till it is next to something higher end. Once that happens, it's hard to go back to them.

maybe i'll get the Taurus 1911 and save up for something nicer later.

My first experience with 1911s was when i shot a SA loaded and Para Ordnance LDA 1911 (on the same range trip). I was at the range shooting my Glock 19, buddy of mine showed up with both, and i got to shoot both 1911s.

Shooting 1911 immediately after shooting a Glock made me appreciate the 1911 a lot--more accurate, easier to shoot, more fun to shoot.

But, since then i've sold my Glock 19, glock 23, bought my two XDs and a CZ 75 (all 9mm). Never got around to buying a 1911 i don't know why....

but i want one now!

My Dad has the "Homeland Defense" version with the Crimson Trace grips and I have a regular blued version and we have had no problems at all out of either. Be aware of he "Straight 8" sites though... some people don't like them.

On the other hand...if you are planning on spending a little more my brother has a Smith & Wesson 1911 that is REALLY nice for the money.

I have owned one for over a year now and it has been flawless! Between my friends and myself, we have six PT1911s and they have all functioned out of the box.

I am looking at one myself. I have found some info but i don't know for sure and would like to. I here they use some weird internal ( hammer safety?) I would like to know about that for mod purposes. I also here the safety lever not the beaver tail breaks? Last but not least lifetime warranty but with the worst customer service?
