I think the PT1911 is one of the best buys out there.

I've had it for 4 months now. ~800 rounds, several USPSA/IPSC matches and range time, zero problems.

The most accurate handgun I personally own. Yes there have been some reports of broken safety but no issue on mine. I can't personally speak for their customer support since I have not yet used them, but the lifetime transferable guarantee is nice.

IMHO the PT1911 AR is the best bang for the buck for IPSC/USPSA single stack shooting. Reason being it maxes out the allowable empty weight at 42 oz. and the added weight of the rail helps control muzzle flip... about the only negative would be the non standard sights. I've seen posts of fiber optic sights on TaurusArmed.net but it's a custom job and not a drop in.

Might not be a bad idea to look into a used PT1911 (if you can find one).

Cheers,

Taurus 1911s are junk. Sorry I would not trust one. It may or may not run for a while but long term durability is extremely suspect. In fact I pretty much don't trust any Taurus Auto.

Hey Popo:

You want to put up ANY Factory 1911 you have for a test, first one to fail, buys the other guys ammo and gives up his gun.....kinda like pinks?

I have 200+ rounds down the pipe no FTE's or FTF its pretty damn accurate and my wife really likes it too. Best $525.00 I've ever spent I've also added a set hogue wrap finger groove grips that was the only thing I didn't like about the gun was the stock grips.

Sure I would put any of these up against a Taurus with confidence.

Wilson CQB I have fired 2000 rounds through it before without cleaning and without a malfunction.

Kimber Series 1 Its also reliable.

STI edge I have only had this baby for about 6 months or so now with about 2000 rounds down range but no malfunctions.

STI Trojan in 9mm. Again I trust it as well.

Check this link out.

WOW.... ANY ANY ANY new 1911 under 1000 rounds that develops a hammer follow.. NO FRIGGIN WAY... thats all I need to read... HELLL NO!!! dangerous guns... AND for those who dont what this does.... just imagine pulling the trigger and all 8 rounds get spit out with out your control... or releasing the slide to chamber a round and the same thing happening... now imagine if you have the gun in high-ready when you do this... you might have just blown the top of your skull off via the middle of you chin...

Taurus should be ashamed... that **** is scary.... I only need to hear one case of a new gun dropping its own hammer to know I will never own a gun by that manufacture...... that is CRAZINESS. And I'm not over-reacting... that really is VERY dangerous...
