Ambidextrious magazine release?

I recently bought an XD in .45 acp and the ambidextrous magazine release has spoiled me. It really is quicker, easier amd a whole lot safer to use your trigger finger! There are several aftermarket ambidextrious drop in magazine releases for the 1911. I must get one. Do any of you have one? Which brand do you like?

Bump.

I've found an ambi mag release from Smith & Alexander and from Cylinder & Slide.

Anyone have any experience with either.

I am right handed but left eye dominant. I shoot rifles and shotguns left handed. I'm starting to think I need to switch to lefty for pistols too. (I have better control right handed, but I find aiming easier as a lefty and with practice think I could eventually be better left handed.)

Here is a link to the S&A: 1911 AUTO AMBI-MAG CATCH at Brownells

It looks like you push in with this one. The Cylinder & Slide is more of a push down or up based on what I can tell from the pics of it.

I'm sorry but I fail to see how an ambi safety is "safer" than standard.

Could you elaborate for those of us who have not heard this before?

If a righty uses the right side of the ambi mag release it forces you to get your finger out of the trigger guard to operate it.

If you have good habits to begin with, there's no difference.

I think you misunderstood. This thread is talking about a magazine release not the safety.
BTW I love the ambi mag release, I too shoot righty and use my right hand to release the mag!!!

its the one and only thing i truly miss about my XD's, it was so easy for me to drop the mag with my trigger finger, while keeping the gun seated in my hand, slamming a mag home and staying relatively on target.
granted its a minor personal preference, and i can go either way... wife wont let me flip the one on her beretta lol.. but since i shoot 1911's i keep them all uniform, in case we have to use one or the others gun at some point.

cheers
