You have to buy mag 22lr. The regular stuff you can shoot in your regular mosquito or ruger is not going to cut it. You need a little more bang to cycle the slide properly. Mag is a lot more expensive than buying a brick but is still a bargain compared to .45.

I don't own any .22 semi autos, but the slide seems very light weight as does the recoil spring. I already have tons of the Federal 550 ammo and if I pick this thing up, I'll be sure to try it with regular ammo before spending money on .22 magnum since I don't have any other firearms that use .22 magnum.

I think you mean Mini-mags from CCI. This pistol does not use 22 magnum or 22 mag.

The slide is aluminum IIRC. I'm probably going to bring mine to the range tomorrow, I'll be shooting the Federal 550 pack. I'll report back on how it does.

Just my $.02

I don't like conversion kits. They cause wear with part of your gun, but not the whole thing. Also .22lr is pretty dirty and that dirt will get in the rest of the gun.

For the price of some conversion kits, you can get a Ruger Mark III .22/45 which has the same/similar ergonomics as the 1911, but is a whole gun you can dedicate to cheap plinking.

But if your 1911 is your dedicated carry pistol, a .22 conversion is a great way to practice live fire without spending a ton of money. A 22/45 is a great plinker as I have one, but the trigger feel is different than a 1911.

Cleaning your firearm is part of carrying. I'm going to clean it whether I shoot .22 or .45
